Environmental Attorney Suzanne Avena
Elected to the Board of Directors
Of the Nassau County Bar Association
Great Neck, NY, August 4,
2009. Suzanne Avena, an environmental attorney with the
law firm of Garfunkel Wild, P.C. (GW), has
been elected to a three-year term to the Board of
Directors of the Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA),
the largest suburban bar association in the nation. “As
a member of the Board of Directors, Ms. Avena will play
a fundamental role in leading the 6,000 member bar
association as the foremost source for legal information
and services for the legal profession and the various
local communities in Nassau County,” noted NCBA
president Emily F. Franchina.
Ms. Avena is currently Chair of the Environmental
Practice Group at GW. She counsels in all matters of
environmental law, including conducting compliance and
due diligence audits, negotiating with federal and state
agencies regarding violations and representing clients
in environmental litigation. She has particular
expertise in structuring contaminated (Brownfield)
commercial property transactions. Ms. Avena represents
municipalities, manufacturers, real estate buyers,
sellers, developers and management firms, lenders,
investors, hospitals, universities, environmental
contractors and consultants, and other business owners.
Ms. Avena received her Bachelor of Science from Cornell
University and her Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s
University School of Law. She lectures and writes
frequently on environmental topics. She is Past-Chair of
the Environmental Law Committee of the NCBA, was Alumni
of the Month for St. John’s University School of Law in
May 2009, and was featured in “Long Island Women in Real
Estate” in March 2008 by the New York Real Estate
Journal. She was also featured in “Ones to Watch” in
January 2008 by Long Island Business News.
