Medicaid Announces Reduction in Payment Rates
Based on "Potentially Preventable Readmissions" (PPRs) |
On January 12, 2011, New
York State Health Regulations were amended to implement
the methodology to reduce Medicaid rates for
“potentially preventable readmissions” (PPRs) in
hospitals for discharges on or after July 1, 2010.
According to the NYS Department of Health (DOH), these
regulations are meant to encourage hospitals to take the
necessary steps to provide better care during patient
admission; thereby reducing the number of and costs
associated with readmissions.
